Cameroon

Cameroon had a mixed voting record during its membership on the Council.

2012 Analysis

Cameroon voted in favor of the three Syria resolutions adopted by the Council in 2012, but abstained on two Syria resolutions adopted in 2011. Cameroon was the only African country to co-sponsor the resolution on accountability in Sri Lanka and voted in favor of it. Unfortunately, Cameroon did not support Council action on other situations of egregious violations. It abstained on the resolutions on Iran and Belarus, as well as on the amendments aimed at improving the text of the Libya resolution.

Cameroon only voted in favor of the resolution on the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and abstained on all other resolutions focusing on the human rights situation in Palestine and other occupied Arab territories.

Cameroon did not sign any of the key joint statements made on country situations.

On a positive note, in 2012 Cameroon co-sponsored 23 country-specific resolutions. However, Cameroon was one of only two member states of the Council that did not intervene in any of the debates that addressed country situations during the 2012 cycle.
