HRC 20 - Statement on HRC engagement on country situations

Joint statement on responding to situations of violations

18 countries made a statement voluntarily committing to be guided by a number of independent considerations when assessing whether a particular situation merits the attention of the Council. They committed to take into account whether there had been a call for action by the UN Secretary General, the High Commission for Human Rights or a group of Special Procedures and to consider other indications of either a chronic or urgent human rights situations. These countries urged others to adopt a more principled approach to the Human Rights Council's response to violations.
