This was the third joint statement on Bahrain at the Human Rights Council. 47 countries joined to express concern at the human rights situation in the country, particularly violations of freedom of peaceful assembly and association, as well as the harassment of critics and human rights defenders. These countries called on the Government of Bahrain to cooperate with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Special Rapporteurs on Torture, Human Rights Defenders and Freedom of Association. The 47 countries also called on OHCHR, the Human Rights Council and the Special Procedures to closely follow the situation in Bahrain.
